December Sun in Tokyo

Tokyo in December feels wide open. The air is cool and clear. Morning light spills across concrete and tile, washing over rooftops and quiet backstreets. The city moves, but not too fast. There’s space to breathe. Space to look.

We left Kyoto behind and continued north. Somewhere between cities, Mt. Fuji appeared. Just for a moment—clear skies, snow on the peak, gone again.

By the next morning, we were in Tokyo. The light was warm. The air felt fresh. We moved slowly, caught trains, wandered quiet neighborhoods. Everything seemed softened by the season—bare trees, still corners, low sun. We visited the former Asakura residence. The afternoon light moved across the floors. Paper screens glowed. A wooden structure, old but steady. Time slows down in spaces like this.

Then my camera stopped. The film wouldn’t wind. But this is Tokyo—there’s always a camera shop nearby. I was lucky and found the same model again: a Ricoh FF-9, in good condition, for a fair price. Loaded fresh film. Continued.
